Explore the Field of Cybersecurity

The GenCyber Advanced Student program is designed for students who are interested in more comprehensive and in-depth cybersecurity learning experience. The GenCyber Advanced Student program will be offered to students entering eighth through twelfth grade and must have previous experience with cybersecurity and/or relevant associated technologies. Preference will be given to students who have previously attended GenCyber. The program is taught by COD faculty in the Computer and Information Technology (CIT) department.

GenCyber Advanced Student Program Expectations

  • The program will be in-person this year
  • Activities and discussions online ethics, social engineering, and cyber crime
  • Digital forensics and handling malware and ransomware
  • Advance cryptographic concepts and analysis techniques
  • Take-home bag: An Arduino and camp-related items

Program Funding

The GenCyber program have been generously funded by a grant from the National Security Agency and the National Science Foundation. There is no cost to a student to attend.

About GenCyber

The GenCyber program provides summer cybersecurity camp experiences for students and teachers at the K-12 level. The goals of the program are to help all students understand correct and safe online behavior, increase interest in cybersecurity careers and increase diversity in the cybersecurity workforce in the U.S., and improve teaching methods for delivering cybersecurity content in K-12 computer science curricula.

GenCyber's mission is to grow the number of students studying cybersecurity in the United States. The program includes summer sessions across the nation designed for elementary, middle and high school students and teachers. The program focuses on engaging the learners with sound cybersecurity principles and teaching techniques.

The GenCyber program is open to all student and teacher participants at no cost. Funding is provided jointly by the NSA and the NSF.

The Computer and Information Technology (CIT) program at College of DuPage offers a variety of degrees and certificates that allow graduates to pursue a career in a wide range of information technology fields. In addition, CIT offers a variety of certification training programs through its Cisco Networking Academy and the CompTIA Academy. These training courses are for individuals interested in advancing their careers or for students who want to specialize in a particular area of study and receive certification training prior to graduation.
