Career Assessment Inventories

Career inventories are effective tools used for educational and career exploration. Based on self-reports, career inventories can provide insight on how individuals function using an unbiased, factual representation. All career inventory referrals and interpretations are part of the Career Counseling process.

College of DuPage offers the following used assessments:

  • The Strong Interest Inventory provides a comparison of a person's interests with the interests of those employed in a variety of occupational settings. This information can help identify general areas of career interest, work activities, and specific occupations to further explore.
  • The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) personality assessment. This tool provides insight into four personality aspects, which lead to a preferred personality style. Interpretation and synthesis of this information leads to an increased awareness of the relation of personality style to career fields.
  • The Self-Directed Search is an interest inventory that classifies individual responses into six basic interest environments. It explores occupations and fields of study related to the individual's interest code. Be aware that there are various fees associated with each of these career assessment inventories.
