Facilities Department

The Facilities department consists of Facilities Planning and Development and Operations and Maintenance. 

Facilities Planning and Development

Facilities Planning and Development strives for architectural excellence in function and esthetics, and to set the standard for facilities for community college education. The department continually monitors and improves the quality of our services to meet and exceed the needs of the COD community. The Facilities Planning and Development implements the College’s facilities master plan. 

The Facilities Planning and Development includes both COD staff and contracted staff. The department is located in the Campus Maintenance Center (CMC). 

Objectives

  • Establish a process to implement the Facilities Master Plan.
  • Establish procedures for design and construction projects.
  • Establish COD standards for building design and construction.
  • Establish procedures to ensure quality control within design and construction projects, through participation by users and other pertinent staff from key segments of COD.
  • Establish a holistic “Facilities Management” philosophy for the creation and continued operations and maintenance of facilities.
  • Implement design and construction projects in partnership with user groups.
  • Educate the COD community regarding design and construction projects, so that users become informed consumers.
  • Provide communications in order to keep the COD community up-to-date regarding design and construction projects and facilities-related issues.

Facilities Operations and Maintenance

Facilities Operations and Maintenance oversees the daily operational needs of the College including the campus facilities and bids/request for proposals. The office is located in the Campus Maintenance Center (CMC) on the west side of the college's Glen Ellyn campus.

The mission of the Facilities Operations & Maintenance is to provide a first-class, clean, safe and effective learning environments for our students, staff and community.

FO&M also provides cost avoidance and control; trained, competent and motivated staff; and the technical and engineering support to overcome all challenges, both expected and unexpected:

LEED Certification

LEED, or Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design, is a green building certification program that recognizes best-in-class building strategies and practices. To receive LEED certification, building projects satisfy prerequisites and earn points to achieve different levels of certification. College of DuPage buildings have met the following certifications or are in process of certification:

  • Technical Education Center (TEC) – Silver Certified
  • Robert J. Miller Homeland Security Education Center (HEC) – Certified
  • Construction and Maintenance Center (CMC) – Gold Certified
  • Seaton Computing Center (SCC) – Silver Certified
  • McAninch Arts Center (MAC) – Certified
  • Culinary and Hospitality Center (CHC) – Goal of Certified
  • Berg Instructional Center (BIC) and Student Services Center (SSC) – Goal of Certified 
  • Student Resource Center (SRC) – Goal of Silver
  • Physical Education Center (PEC) – Goal of Gold
