Many adults ages 50 and over are choosing to return to the workforce, change careers or explore academic study. College of DuPage Continuing Education has developed a series of streamlined classes in the following areas: computer skills, career search, volunteerism and self-discovery.
Our Plus 50 instructors design these courses with the rich experiences and varied skills of adult learners in mind. Learning is directed toward the tools and skills necessary for a Plus 50 student's next step. Most courses are offered at special prices and are scheduled with an adult's busy schedule in mind.
Career Search for Plus 50
To help individuals ages 50 and older transition to new career and training opportunities,
College of DuPage offers a specialized career-readiness workshop. Under the guidance
of an expert career coach, update your resume, practice interviewing and negotiating
skills, and develop a professional LinkedIn profile. Learn about the resources available
to you at College of DuPage and within the broader community. This class is offered
at a minimal charge to students age 50 and older only. Registration is required.
Job Search Websites for Plus 50
This class introduces websites that assist in your job search. Sites explored include
those that are local to the Chicago area, as well as general job search sites, such
as CareerBuilder, Indeed and LinkedIn. Examine the pros and cons of each one, and
discuss how you can use these sites to your career advantage.
Networking for Plus 50
Networking is often seen as the single most powerful job-search tool. Many Plus 50
job seekers are hesitant to create a network, let alone advertise to others that they
are out of work or looking for a new position. Attend this workshop for some key ideas
on networking, how to get one set up and how to use and nurture your network.
Self-Discovery for Plus 50
Evaluate your past accomplishments, current interests, skills and future goals in
a friendly and supportive environment. Designed for the adult who is returning to
school, entering the workforce, or exploring volunteer opportunities, this course
explores some assessment tools, including writing exercises to help you uncover your
true interests. Develop an awareness of yourself and your goals for the next step.
Volunteerism in DuPage County
DuPage County offers a multitude of opportunities for you to give back to the community—and
some of these placements even pay a wage. Come learn what's out there, who needs your
help and where to start this rewarding endeavor. Giving DuPage presents this informative
session. Space is limited; advanced registration is required.
