DuPage Senior Citizens Council

Established in 1975, the DuPage Senior Citizens Council (DSCC) is volunteer-driven and a registered not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization. For over 45 years, we have been caring for the seniors in DuPage County.

DSCC is also a proud member of Meals on Wheels America and the official Meals on Wheels provider for all of DuPage County. Our commitment to seniors goes beyond delivering meals. We provide other needed and important services that allow seniors in DuPage County and nearby counties to live safely and independently in their own homes, which can dramatically improve the seniors' overall well-being and health.

Remote Volunteering Opportunity! Hours are flexible and will be based on your own availability.

Description of Service Learner Role

In this role, you will be matched with a senior to whom you will connect weekly for 45-60 minutes, which can be broken up into multiple calls. These will be scheduled calls and times will need to be agreed upon by the senior. The seniors are flexible.

Your primary role is to be a caring voice and provide conversation and companionship through a phone call. We will give you some tools and resources for communicating. In this role, you can help diminish the feeling of social isolation and loneliness for the senior. For you, the Service Learner, this opportunity will help develop skills in the areas of communication, creative thinking, active listening, dependability, empathy, positivity, and motivation.
