Study Abroad Program Recognized as Top Producer of Gilman Scholars
By Angela Mennecke

College of DuPage has been recognized by the U.S. Department of State as a top producer of Gilman Scholars, coinciding with the 25th anniversary of the prestigious Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program.
The Gilman Scholarship provides merit-based awards to undergraduate students with high financial need, enabling them to study or intern abroad for academic credit—opportunities that can be transformative for students who may not otherwise have access to international experiences.
Since the program’s inception, COD has produced 34 Gilman Scholars, placing the College among the top associate degree-granting institutions in the nation.
COD has consistently been recognized by the U.S. Department of State thru the Open Doors report of the Institute for International Education for creating accessible study abroad programs for students. COD ranked first nationally in community colleges for sending students abroad in the academic year 2023-2024.
“This recognition speaks to our students’ interest in seeking global perspectives, and our commitment to expanding access to study abroad,” said COD Study Abroad Coordinator Sue Kerby. “Gilman helps make global experiences possible, and we’re proud to support students as they take that step.”
