Steps to Transfer from College of DuPage

If you are planning on transferring after completing your studies at College of DuPage, you need to become familiar with the transfer process. The following checklist is organized by credit amount and identifies steps you should consider to ensure a smooth transition from College of DuPage to your college or university.

  

0 - 12 Credits

  • Meet with a counselor or advisor to explore educational opportunities and to develop an academic plan. Appointments can be made by calling the Counseling, Advising and Transfer Services office at (630) 942-2259.
  • Review the popular transfer schools to look over articulated agreements and other transfer information.
  • Search other transfer institutions by using the transfer resources 
  • Study for your classes. One of the criteria that colleges and universities look at for admission is your College of DuPage GPA. Although some colleges and universities may admit students with a 2.0 GPA, many require a 3.0 or higher.


13 - 24 Credits

  • Continue to research colleges and universities by using the transfer resources.
  • Check the visiting colleges and universities schedule to visit with representatives from these schools to learn more about their programs and admission requirements.
  • Attended a Transfer Fair to learn more about your transfer options.
  • Begin to develop a top five list of preferred colleges or universities you would like to transfer to and visit their websites to learn about the transfer requirements.
  • Create a Transferology account to track how your courses at College of DuPage could transfer to your top five schools, if they participate.
  • Work with representatives from your top five schools to schedule a campus visit.


25 - 30 Credits

  • Update your resume with help from the Career Services Office.
  • Attend open houses for your top five transfer schools.
  • Communicate regularly with representatives from your top five schools to stay updated on application and scholarship deadlines.
  • Update your Transferology account with your current courses.
  • Study for your classes. One of the criteria that colleges and universities look at for admission is your College of DuPage GPA.  Although some colleges and universities may admit students with a 2.0 GPA, many require a 3.0 or higher.


35 - 40 Credits

  • Meet with your counselor, advisor, or faculty advisor to make sure you are on track with your required courses.
  • Narrow down your top five to your top two or three schools.
  • Visit the Learning Commons for assistance with your admission essays.
  • Gather references and or letters of recommendation for your applications.
  • Update your FAFSA to include the school(s) you are going to apply to.
  • Apply for scholarships. Apply in February for May/August graduates; October for December/January graduates.
  • Request your official College of DuPage transcripts via your student myACCESS account. If you transferred any courses to College of DuPage, you will also need to request official transcripts from that school to be sent as well.
  • Send in your admission application and all supporting information including transcripts, essay, letter of recommendation or references.


41 - 64 Credits

  • Study for your classes. One of the criteria that colleges and universities look at for admission is your College of DuPage GPA. Although some colleges and universities may admit students with a 2.0 GPA, many require a 3.0 or higher.
  • Review all acceptance and scholarship letters.
  • Make decision on what school you will transfer to.
  • Contact the representative from your transfer school about additional scholarship opportunities.
  • Request your official College of DuPage transcripts via your student myACCESS account to be sent after final grades post.
  • Scheduled your transfer orientation and advising appointment with your transfer school.
