Marketing

The Marketing, Associate in Applied Science degree program provides a solid foundation in core business and marketing topics as well as flexibility through program electives.

Graduates gain knowledge in a variety of employment opportunities including inside and outside sales, customer service, consumer marketing, business-to-business marketing, e-commerce and promotions.

Curriculum covers fundamental business related topics, including social media and internet marketing, principles of retailing, sales, marketing and management, advertising, business ethics and business law, as well as accounting, computer information systems, microeconomics and macroeconomics, and psychology. 

Consumer Marketing

The Consumer Marketing certificate program provides students with core competencies in marketing finished products and services to consumers. The curriculum covers introductory business concepts as well as the principles of marketing and consumer behavior. 

Digital and Social Media Marketing

The Digital and Social Media Marketing certificate program provides students the foundational understanding of developing a digital marketing strategy.

Students will be able to optimize a company's digital marketing efforts through search engine optimization, digital content creation, analysis of digital metrics, develop email campaigns,and learn best website practices. Students will have the opportunity to earn related industry certifications.

Marketing

The Marketing certificate program provides a foundation in general marketing practices and principles. The curriculum covers traditional marketing, internet and social media marketing as well as business, computer information systems, financial accounting and principles of management.

The first step to getting started in Marketing is to apply for admission.

Academic and Career Pathways give you a roadmap to achieving your career goals. Follow a pathway based on your degree that outlines which classes you need to take and when so you graduate on time or move on to the next phase in your career.

Marketing program graduates will:

  • Explain marketing concepts associated with product, price, distribution and promotion strategies.
  • Assemble appropriate information resources to support analysis of the macro and microenvironments.
  • Formulate communication that informs, persuades and develops relationships with diverse groups of customers.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of ethical and socially responsible marketing issues and practices.
  • Describe the role of marketing in an organization.
  • Assess and respond to customer needs and expectations.
  • Propose effective marketing strategies.

College of DuPage has several business, management and marketing transfer agreements in place with four-year colleges and universities to save you time, money and make the transfer process easier.

Many of these agreements with other colleges and universities have specific course requirements and a pre-determined course plan that needs to be followed to be eligible to transfer. Contact a program faculty member or academic advisor to learn more as course requirements vary by institution.

Frequently Asked Questions

The following are answers to common frequently asked questions regarding the Business, Management and Marketing programs.

A certificate focuses on a specific body or area of knowledge while a degree combines that focus with a broad academic background. 

An Associate in Arts degree is usually geared to transfer to a baccalaureate-granting college or university in a residential, full-time program. The Associate in Applied Science degree is accepted by many local colleges and universities, especially adult, part-time programs.

The Associate in Arts includes more liberal arts courses, while the Associate in Applied Science focuses more on your specialty area.

IAI is the acronym for the Illinois Articulation Initiative. A course which is designated IAI will transfer to any public or private college or university in Illinois.

Prerequisites are courses (or demonstrated equivalent experience) that you must take prior to enrolling in another higher-level course. 

You need to take prerequisite courses because they give you the background necessary for higher-level courses. The higher-level course instructor assumes that you have mastered the content of the prerequisite course. Mastery of the prerequisite course content improves your chances of successful performance.
