Madrid, Spain Study Abroad

Study the Spanish language and acquire a firsthand knowledge of the people and culture of Spain. Spain is a splendid mix of 21st century culture and old-world tradition. Madrid is located in the center of the Iberian Peninsula and offers a wide array of cultural opportunities. According to Ernest Hemingway, Madrid is "the most Spanish of all cities." It is impressive in its architecture and vitality as well as its open green spaces.

Study Abroad Program Information

  • Program Dates: TBD
  • Similar summer programs are available to Costa Rica through COD and Spain through ICISP.
  • Fee: Fee (TBA) includes round trip airfare from Chicago, lodging in a "residencia" (dorm) with three meals per day, ground transportation in Spain, cultural excursions and course materials. Tuition (6 to 7 credits) is extra.
  • Scholarship: The Dr. Jaco Scholarship for Spanish Heritage Language Learners is awarded exclusively for the Costa Rica and Spain Summer Language Immersion programs. Reference is given to applicants who are enrolled in or have completed a COD heritage speaker course, and have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or greater. Up to $1,000 will be awarded. Scholarship application is open Jan. 1 until Feb. 20.

Passport Information: If you do not have a passport, or your passport expires within six months of the program dates, you MUST apply for a passport or renew your passport immediately. Passports can take up to four months to obtain. Do not wait until you are accepted into the program.
