Study the Spanish language and acquire a firsthand knowledge of the people and culture of Spain. Spain is a splendid mix of 21st century culture and old-world tradition. Madrid is located in the center of the Iberian Peninsula and offers a wide array of cultural opportunities. According to Ernest Hemingway, Madrid is "the most Spanish of all cities." It is impressive in its architecture and vitality as well as its open green spaces. Fee: $4,550, includes round trip airfare from Chicago, lodging in a "residencia" (dorm) with three meals per day, ground transportation in Spain, cultural excursions and course materials. Tuition (6 to 7 credits) is extra. Information: Bonnie Loder (630) 942-3040The COD Dr. Jaco Scholarship for Spanish Heritage Language Learners is awarded exclusively for the COD Summer Language Immersion programs (Spain or Costa Rica), preference is given to applicants who are enrolled in or have completed a COD heritage speaker course, and have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or greater. Up to $1,000 will be awarded. Application is open January 1 until February 20. Scholarship application available here.
