Set to launch this fall, College of DuPage’s new Accounting Specialist Certificate equips students with skills necessary for entry-level positions in payroll, accounts payable and accounts receivable. The program also develops computerized general ledger software skills to complement these roles. Students earning this certificate will also be prepared to earn the program’s bookkeeping, paraprofessional and advanced accounting certificates, as well as an associate in applied science degree.
According to Accounting Professor Maureen McBeth, the Accounting Specialist Certificate provides an advantageous start to building toward other certificates and credentials in accounting.
“The certificate is a great starting point that gives students the ideal combination of technical skills and knowledge to obtain an accounting position that they can build upon,” she said. “One of the best parts of the accounting profession is that there are so many possibilities to develop once you get started.”
COD’s Accounting program provides fundamental and advanced accounting education and practice in industry areas such as business, technology and taxation. Students in the accountancy program will take courses in bookkeeping, payroll, QuickBooks, income tax return preparation, auditing and more.
