Basic Evidence Technician Course

Law enforcement professionals gain the knowledge and skills to locate, document, collect and preserve items of evidentiary value at a crime scene. The curriculum is built from the principles and standards set forth by the International Association for Identification (IAI) and relevant Scientific Working Groups (SWGs) such as the Scientific Working Group for Shoeprint and Tire Tread Evidence (SWGTREAD). Subjects covered in the course include crime scene management and safety, biological evidence recovery, trace evidence, packaging and chain of custody.

This course provides the foundation for SLEA's Advanced Crime Scene Technician/Investigator courses: Bloodstain Evidence, Bullet Trajectory Reconstruction and Death Investigation programs.
