Physics for Scientists and Engineers III

The goal of this course is for students to develop a basic understanding of the physical concepts involved in fluids, thermodynamics, special relativity, introductory quantum mechanics, nuclear physics and particle physics. A significant emphasis will be placed on the basic concepts involved. Calculations and calculus will be used as a tool to study and learn these concepts.

  • Your next lecture of Physics 2115-003 will take place in BIC-3H06 starting promptly at 12:00 Noon on Thursday, April 18th.
  • Be sure to read Chapter 37 (if using Tipler's text) for class on Monday, April 22nd.  (If using the Openstax University Physics text , be sure to review Chapter 9 of Volume 3.)  Links to the Openstax University Physics are provided below.
  • The ExpertTA Homework 16 has been posted.  Homework 16 will be due on Friday, April 19th by 11:30 PM.
  • The ExpertTA Homework 17 has been posted.  Homework 17 will be due on Tuesday, April 23rd by 11:30 PM.
  • Special Note: The due dates for the ExpertTA Homework Assignments 1-17 are now set.  Currently, Homework 18 problems (and beyond) are being recoded and a formal due date will be established shortly.  Watch this space for updates as to when the assignments will be ready to start.  Thank you for your patience.
  • Exam 2 is scheduled to take place on Monday, April 15th in the lab starting promptly at 1:00 PM.  The exam will cover Chapters R, 39, 34, and 35 of Tipler.  A sheet of possibly useful information (constants, conversions, formulae, etc.) will be provided for the exam.  Click on the "Sample Eaquation Sheet for Exam 2" link below to access a sample copy.
  • Your next laboratory session will take place on Monday, April 22nd starting at 1:00 PM.  Your "Optical Spectroscopy" packet will be due at teh start (1:00 PM) of the session.  Scroll down and print the Investigation #11: X-ray Dirffraction materials.  Read the lab activities and complete Pre-lab #11.  The pre-lab is also due at 1:00 PM.
