This workshop will review the four principal kinds of intellectual property (IP) important to a small business: trade secrets, patents, copyrights and trademarks. We will cover what they protect and what they don’t, how to best acquire them, perfect them, assert and defend them. The speakers will address IP issues commonly encountered as well an introduction to an intentional IP strategy for your business. There will be time for Q & A.
About the Speaker:
Ann Palma is a partner at McDonnell Boehnen Hulbert & Berghoff LLP. Ann Palma's practice covers patent and trademark litigation, counseling and prosecution. She is experienced in drafting patent applications in the pharmaceutical, consumer product, food science, material science and chemical areas. Ms.Palma worked for BP America, Inc., and Human Genome Sciences, Inc.. She completed a law degree from the University of Illinois College of Law.
Brett W. Scott is a partner at McDonnell Boehnen Hulbert & Berghoff LLP. Brett W. Scott concentrates his practice on intellectual property matters including patent and trademark prosecution. He is experienced in drafting patent applications in the areas of telecommunications, audio processing, video broadcasting, semiconductor devices, software, and electronics. Mr. Scott received his law degree from the University of Illinois College of Law.
