President and CEO Carrie Piecznyski approached the SBDC in August of 2014 in preparation for launching a new business while capitalizing on her industry expertise and business development skills in selling network technology.
As a female entrepreneur working within a male-dominated industry, Carrie secured the services of SBDC to write and execute a business plan within a high-growth industry that is slated to grow about 7% annually through 2019 due to heightened interest in security surveillance.
The business plan helped her in identifying start-up costs, corporate structure, understanding cash flow, and identifying their competition that resulted in her obtaining a line-of-credit with Wheaton Bank and Trust for working capital to hire 6 full-time employees to help launch the business.
Prior to launch, Carrie participated in an SBDC training called Project CEO - Skills Training for Women to Create Great companies so that she possessed the skill set to build the company and scale. According to Carrie, "The Project CEO program through the SBDC office at COD is outstanding." Through assistance of the SBDC and her ability to assemble a team of installers, Clear LP launched in the beginning months of 2015 and is well positioned to support revenue growth.
The business challenge will be to monitor cash flow to ensure Clear LP will be well-positioned for an SBA loan expected in 2016, when increase in cash reserves will be needed to support their expected double-digit growth in 2016-2017. The client continues to obtain SBDC assistance in tracking outcomes from sales and business development activities using SBDC tools from Growth Wheel.
