As a true family affair, dad Doug and daughter Gracie have been successful at organically building an initial revenue stream from French/farmers markets, online, local events, various events centerpieces and satisfying orders for delivery from an online floral service.
Gracie’s Petals started at home in June 2021 with a very lean business model. By September of the same year, the father-daughter team knew the business was working. Gracie’s Petals has been growing with the addition of multiple revenue streams and needed to expand operations to a larger location, add retail sales opportunities and hire 2-3 employees. They came to the College of DuPage SBDC for assistance with how to grow into a storefront and secure funding to create 2, possibly 3 new jobs. The advisor assisted with an expansion plan and securing the necessary funding.
Doug said, “As a startup business, and not having any formal retail/personal business experience in the past, I/we were referred to the Ill SBDC program at COD. The SBDC has been very helpful in guiding us to making the proper business decisions as a new firm as well as assisting with funding options that have allowed us to grow to where we are today. The grand opening was January 29, 2022 in the new retail store at 27WW221 Geneva Rd, Winfield, IL.
