Course Description: First semester of a two-semester sequence dealing with the structure and function of the human body and mechanisms for maintaining homeostasis within it. Includes the study of cells, tissues, and the integumentary, skeletal, muscular and nervous systems. Course is intended to be an alternative to ANAT 1571; credit toward graduation will be granted for ANAT 1551 or ANAT 1571, but not for both. BIOLO 1151 is strongly recommended. ** Note ** This course, taken after Spring 2017, will NOT count towards the Life Science requirement in the AA, AS, AFA or AAT degrees. Course Description: This biology course promotes scientific literacy for non-science majors and interested students. Organisms are studied from their behavioral, ecological, hereditary and evolutionary perspectives. An inquiry-based approach to understanding biological processes is emphasized. Students explore the relevance of biology to contemporary issues in human society. (3 Lecture hours, 2 lab hours) Prerequisite: MATH 0465 or MATH 0481 (or college equivalent) with a C or better, or a qualifying score on the mathematics placement test or a qualifying A.C.T. math score.
