Political Science Program

The Political Science program examines the power and process involved with politics and government. Classes focus on a variety of political ideas and theories both within the United States government and abroad.

Political Science Intended Major

The Political Science, Associate in Arts degree combines courses in communication, social and behavioral sciences, humanities and other areas with political science courses. This provides students pursuing a bachelor's degree in Political Science with a two-year foundation of coursework.

The first step to getting started in Political Science is to apply for admission.

Academic and Career Pathways give you a roadmap to achieving your career goals. Follow a pathway based on your degree that outlines which classes you need to take and when so you graduate on time or move on to the next phase in your career.

Students who complete courses in political science will: 

  • Develop six discipline-specific knowledge, skills, and abilities with substantive knowledge of the five subfields of political science.
  • Develop professional communication abilities in writing and oral expression.
  • Develop critical thinking and research skills leading to the ability to understand, design and carry out research.
  • Prepare for fulfilling the obligations of citizenship, including means of political participation and the development of informed policy opinions.

College of DuPage has several political science transfer agreements in place with four-year colleges and universities to save you time, money and make the transfer process easier.

Many of these agreements with other colleges and universities have specific course requirements and a pre-determined course plan that needs to be followed to be eligible to transfer. Contact a program faculty member or academic advisor to learn more as course requirements vary by institution.
