High School Equivalency Program (GED/HSE)

Take the first step toward your educational goals and improve your earning potential by working toward your high school equivalency (HSE). COD's free HSE program prepares you to take and pass the GED® or other high school equivalency exam. Don't let the past stop your future; get your GED® and keep going!

This program is geared toward adults age 16 and over who: 

  • Lack a high school diploma
  • Have good reading skills
  • Need to prepare to earn a high school equivalency certificate

Note:  A letter of withdrawal from high school must be provided by students who are 16 or 17 years old.

What You'll Learn

You'll receive instruction in the five areas covered on the tests:

  • Social studies
  • Science
  • Interpreting literature and the arts
  • Mathematics
  • Writing skills

Instruction is also offered on the U.S. and Illinois Constitutions. A test covering these areas must be passed if it was not passed in high school.

Integrated Career and Academic Preparation System (ICAPS) 
Learn how to attain your high school equivalency while earning in-demand certification in information technology or welding through ICAPS at College of DuPage.

All students will be required to take a placement test prior to starting their high school equivalency classes. Walk-in testing is available in Glen Ellyn, Addison, Carol Stream, Naperville and Westmont. Contact (630) 942-3697 for more information on testing hours and location.
