Women in STEM Career Day

This event is designed to celebrate women in STEM careers and will provide high school freshmen and sophomore girls with the opportunity to interact with positive role models and participate in hands-on activities in order to encourage more women to have positive experiences with STEM and to pursue STEM careers. The event will include hands-on sessions, career panel group discussions with women in the STEM fields, and a tour of our STEM facilities.

Explore the Respiratory System - Karan Oliver-Tucci
Attendees will be microscopically viewing lung tissue, working with bell jars to examine the relationship between pressure and volume in the thoracic cavity, listening to lung sounds, measuring blood oxygen saturation and using spirometers to test their own lung volume.
Exploring Everyday Chemistry - Lubna Haque
Students will be introduced to various types of chemical reactions, such as acid-base neutralization and polymerization as well analytical chemistry techniques, such a chromatography. They will not only be able to see demos pertaining to these chemistry topics, but will also engage in several hand-on activities.
Tour our STEM Facilities - Joan DiPiero
Take a tour of our STEM facilities and learn about what COD has to offer when it comes to STEM programs. Visit top of the line classrooms and lab space, and see how our faculty and students are putting STEM into action.
Students can be dropped off at the SRC entrance at Door #1. Buses will need to park in Lot 6. View the map.
Terms and Conditions
By registering for this event, you certify that you understand and agree to follow the following guidelines:
- Each student will have a photo release form, signed in advance by a parent/guardian, to turn in upon check-in.
- Priority will be given for students who attend high schools which feed into College of DuPage District 502.
- A roster including names of all students and chaperones attending the event will be required two weeks prior to the event date.
