Honors Council of the Illinois Region Spring 2022 Student Symposium

9 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. via Zoom

The College of DuPage Honors Program welcomes you to the annual Honors Council of the Illinois Region (HCIR) Student Symposium on Saturday, Feb. 26, 2022. This year’s symposium will be from 9 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. It will be held virtually via Zoom with no cost for registration. In addition, institutional membership dues are waived this year.

Call For Proposals

The HCIR Student Symposium provides an opportunity for undergraduate Honors students from Illinois and the surrounding states to present their research and receive feedback from attendees.

  • Proposals are due by Saturday, Feb. 12, 2022 at midnight.
  • Presentations should be directed towards a general audience that are not experts on the topic.
  • Student presenters must register by Saturday, Feb. 12, 2022.
  • All attendees must register in advance, whether they are presenting or not, by Saturday, Feb. 12, 2022.

This year’s event will include a breakout session for students with similar majors and a trivia game with prizes.

Students are also invited to an optional online movie night on Friday, Feb. 25, 2022, to kick off the event. More details will be sent to registered students.

Awards

The Honors Council of the Illinois Region will be offering awards for best projects. In order to be eligible for an HCIR award, students must submit an optional essay about their project by Saturday, Feb. 12, 2022. The essay details are in the Proposal form below. There will also be a “Student’s Choice” Award that attendees can vote for on the day of the event.

Presentation Types

Students may submit a proposal for one of three presentation types:

A one-screen digital poster display of your research that can be screen-shared with symposium attendees (for example, a PowerPoint slide customized for a poster that would be 48” x 36” if printed). Each poster session will contain four posters with 10 minutes for each, followed by a Q&A session. Digital posters must be displayed on the 2022 Padlet for all attendees to view prior to the event. Poster presenters will be given access to the Padlet via email.

COD students should use the poster template (Powerpoint file).

A 15 to 20 minute group presentation of research that may include visuals that can be shared via Zoom. Two panels will run during a session, followed by a Q&A session.

A 10 to 15 minute individual or two-person presentation of research that may include visuals that can be shared via Zoom. Individual/partner presentations will be grouped together by topic, followed by a Q&A session.
