Major: Sonography
Christine White loves anatomy and originally started taking prerequisite courses at College of DuPage for the Physical Therapy Assistant program.
But she soon discovered a passion for a new career.
“During my Anatomy and Physiology class, I realized I was fascinated by anatomy and pathology of the organs that keep us alive and well,” she said. “I did some research, went to the advising session for sonography and was hooked. I knew it was exactly what I wanted to do.”
White, who chose COD because of its proximity and positive reputation for its health science programs, discovered teachers who were key in helping her reach her goals.
“Every instructor I had was very approachable to discuss anything at all, from individual tutoring to personal issues,” she said. “My cohort sonography ‘family’ is one that will always be close. It is such an intense program and we all counted on each other to succeed.”

Having earned her Associates in Applied Science in Diagnostic Medical Imaging Sonography, White now works at Good Samaritan Hospital and practices general vascular, pediatric and breast sonography. She also enjoys teaching the students during their clinical rotations about how sonography is a career where you are constantly learning.
Her advice to students considering the Sonography program at College of DuPage is to not give up.
“The ultrasound program is very competitive and very intense,” she said. “Study and practice as much as you can and do not be afraid to ask questions, especially of your clinical instructors. Ultrasound is like a box of chocolates – you never know what the next patient is going to bring you. It is a field of constant learning and you’ll never know it all. Be confident, but humble.
“Go after what you want to be. Life is a journey, not a straight line.”
