Student Stories: Sara Starodub

Sara Starodub

Major: Medical Assistant

Sara Starodub always had a strong interest in health care and helping others.

She was aware of College of DuPage’s strong reputation and the excellence of its health science programs. After attending an information session for the Medical Assistant program, she knew it was the right fit.

“Medical assistants make a difference in patients’ lives every day,” she said. “As a medical assistant, you perform clinical duties while managing administrative tasks in a variety of medical offices. I was impressed by the selection process for medical assistant students at COD, which pushed me to do well in my prerequisites in order to be accepted into the program.”

After being accepted, Starodub gained a strong skill set that formed the foundation for a successful health care career.

“I firmly believe that COD’s Medical Assistant program prepares you for medical assisting better than any other program out there,” she said. “I felt confident going into my first job.”

After earning her Associate in Science degree and the Medical Assistant Certificate, Starodub transferred to National Louis University and completed a bachelor’s degree in health care leadership. She has worked as a medical assistant in a variety of offices and as a medical assistant trainer for a health care organization. She recently accepted a new role as the Illinois Immunization Coordinator for another health care organization.

As her career has progressed, Starodub discovered a strong passion for teaching and education. She currently teaches part-time in the Medical Assistant program at COD and would like to do more as she continues to grow within the health care field.

For any students considering a career in health care, Starodub strongly recommends enrolling at COD.

“From the support of the all the instructors to the externship experience, the Medical Assistant program prepares you for success in health care,” she said. “The medical assistant profession allows versatility and job security, and I love my job more and more each day!”
