As an Iranian immigrant coming to the U.S., Azin Matloubieh turned to College of DuPage for more than just an education.
“After only two weeks, COD was the best place to improve my educational skills, where I could develop my English skills and find my interesting field of study,” she said.
That field is human resource management, about which Matloubieh is excited.
“All aspects of it, such as benefits like compensations, staff development, recruitment and job evaluation, interest me because they all have a profound impact on people’s lives inside and outside of work,” she said. “The most important aspect about human resource management is that it is present in all industries. All organizations, companies and firms need Human Resource (HR) managers to expand the mission of the company and develop staff abilities.”

While at COD, she worked in the Community Engagement office, where she gained valuable knowledge about the importance of diversity in the workplace.
“By dealing with a range of situations, I was building my skills to work in HR management,” she said. “The people who I surround myself with always encourage my exemplary and fast decision making. Through the range of our different backgrounds, I also enjoy the diversity among my friends.”
Matloubieh earned her Associate in Arts degree and transferred to the University of Illinois at Chicago, where she was part of the Honors College and worked at a software company called Workiva, first as an HR Business Partner intern and then as an HR Learning and Development intern. Having completed her bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, she currently is an HR business associate at Wellington Management, an asset management company. Her hope is to promote the importance of diversity as she pursues her career.
As for COD, Matloubieh believes it offers all of the resources that students need to achieve their goals.
“As a teenage immigrant, with all hardships of living alone far away from my family for almost two years, I had a fantastic opportunity to get to know people from different cultures and backgrounds. College of DuPage became my second home and a wonderful place to represent the United States of America's people, culture and education.”
