President's Message

Greetings District 502 Community

As we near the end of our academic year, I sincerely thank so many of you who serve as our community stakeholders and partners. Your ongoing support has been invaluable, and I look forward to all that our fall semester has to offer.

Despite significant challenges brought on by the global pandemic, I am encouraged by our students’ drive, determination and resilience. To meet students where they are, we provided a host of necessary resources, such as loaner laptops and hot spots, as well as opportunities to apply for new scholarships. This year, we launched the new 9/11 Memorial Scholarship to give financial support to students pursuing careers in first responder fields. Established as part of the College’s commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks, Nursing student Angelica Grimaldo of West Chicago and Cybersecurity student Hunter Bogwill of Glendale Heights each received $2,500 awards for the fall 2022 semester.

In addition, more than 240 students earned COD Succeeds Scholarships during the 2021-2022 academic year. The COD Succeeds Scholarships, totaling $150,000, offer financial awards to students who may not have otherwise qualified for other monetary assistance grants. This year’s scholarships were funded from both COD and external donors.

I thoroughly enjoy talking with various students from across the district, particularly those who share stories of triumph and overcoming significant obstacles. Our budding scholars have much to offer and are eager to learn how to be successful in our changing higher education landscape and beyond.

At COD, we are poised to assist students as well as the community and welcome the opportunity to share our resources beyond the footprint of the main campus.

Thank you for all that you do!

Sincerely,

Dr. Brian Caputo
