The College of DuPage Wellness Program
is committed to raising the awareness level of living a healthy lifestyle
for each individual at the college. In moving into the 21st century, people
are learning that to maintain health and enjoy well-being, we need to
do more than just exercise and eat right.
Today, people understand the value of working with qualified health professionals
in determining their own health care needs and are taking more responsibility
to inform themselves through up-to-date medical information. People also
are acknowledging their need for lifestyle enhancement and are taking
action to move out of their current state of "not well" and
into their desired state of well-being.
Well-being involves an increased level of mental understanding and body
awareness, a need to make a commitment while taking the steps necessary
for effective and healthy lifestyle changes, and embracing the values
that provide the motivation and support needed to achieve and maintain
healthy lifestyle outcomes.
The Employee Wellness program, Balanced Lifestyles, was created in 1999
with a basic belief that people have a natural desire and ability to seek
out healthy behaviors. In support of this belief, Balanced Lifestyles
provides effective lifestyle tools and resources that employees can use
for benefit and support so they can efficiently work with their desires
and abilities while reaching healthy lifestyle goals.
The following areas define the six dimensions of the Employee Wellness
program, Balanced Lifestyles, at College of DuPage:
Social and Cultural
Financial and Career
Family and Home
Spiritual and Ethical
Physical and Health
Mental and Educational
