How do I find out more about the classes offered?

For what specific population are the classes designed?
Our vocational skills courses are designed for individuals with mild to moderate cognitive disabilities or mental retardation.

How do I enroll in one or more of the classes?
Enrollment/registration forms can be downloaded from our web site (How to Register) or you may call (630) 942-2941 to have a packet mailed to you.

What is the emphasis of the curriculum of each course?
The objective of each course is to combine specific vocational (job) skills of the course with appropriate life skills for functioning successfully in a community workplace environment.

How long have these courses been offered at C.O.D.?
C.O.D. began offering these courses in 1998.

How can consumers, professionals, parents or employers offer input into these courses or suggest new courses?
You can do so via e-mail or by calling Sally Field Mullan, (630) 942-2941. Additionally, students and their parents are asked to complete a class evaluation form. This information is collected and used at advisory board meetings to enhance and modify the curriculum or other aspects of our service delivery.

Can I find these courses offered at other community colleges?
Typically, you will not. College of DuPage is an innovative leader among community colleges and is one of the first in the United States to create and implement programming for this disabled population. C.O.D. faculty has worked with other community colleges who are interested in implementing their own programs. You may contact other community colleges directly to learn more about their programs.

Can the student in taking these courses earn an associate’s degree?
No. Students take the courses to learn skills but not earn a degree. The college keeps a transcript record on file for each individual completing any of these courses.

How much does it cost?
Courses are 2 semester credit hours and College of DuPage tuition is currently $108 per semester credit hour. There is a $30 course fee that covers the cost of supplies and study materials. The cost for a 2-credit course is $216 plus $30 for a total of $246 per course.


Is transportation provided?
No, transportation is not provided by College of DuPage. Check with your local transit system to see if they provide transportation to the college. Some schools and agencies may provide transportation or vouchers.
