I am running for the position of SLC Vice President to take advantage of the opportunity to approach an understanding of our student body while actively being involved in it. The prospect of having a social function within a student council is an exciting one, and would be a great way for me to make my mark on the school. I'm a relatively new student, and I have yet to join an organization or a club at the College of DuPage. I'm comfortable putting myself out there and getting to know people, and I consider myself to be an empathetic person. I appreciate how much I've enjoyed talking to the plethora of people belonging to a community much more expansive than I had at my high school through my time at the college. I hope to become a conduit for student ideas, opinions, and concerns to come through to the school, working to improve the overall student experience voice by voice.
This is my first year, second semester at the College of DuPage and based off of my experience I can say that I've definitely enjoyed my journey at this institution. My involvement last semester was minimal and while I enjoyed my classes and professors I felt like I did not take advantage of everything this school offered. Now, as second semester has taken off I can proudly say that I am a part of Psi Beta, the vice president of the Rotaract club, French club, and hopefully VP for SLC. I'm running for this position because I feel like SLC should be more involved with the students like they are the first weeks in the fall. Based off of my short time here many students if not the majority do not know how to get involved or are aware of the events SLC has such as the free popcorn on Wednesdays. I want go get involved so that all students can take advantage of the activities and events here at COD where it is easy to socialize and establish relationships with others outside of being solely classmates. Some of my qualifications that would be ideal in a vice president would be my ability at public speaking, being a friendly and sociable person to all, reliability and committed to a positions such as this, having connections towards other clubs , and if it is ever useful my ability in speaking fluent Spanish.
