Student Spotlight: Carol Williams
Hometown: West Chicago
Carol Williams earned her Associate Degree in Nursing in 1981 and was hired by Central DuPage Hospital as a staff nurse on the orthopedic unit.
"Over the 30 years, I have had opportunities to increase my responsibilities and knowledge both in nursing and in Informatics," she said. "I am now a nurse informaticist at Central DuPage, which means I am a registered nurse who participates in computer software selection, development, support, maintenance, training and overall troubleshooting of the computer systems clinical staff interacts with. I am a liaison between the Information Technology department and the clinical users."
Williams initially chose COD based on reputation, affordability, proximity and flexibility. The skills she learned during her studies have served her well.
"My education at the College thoroughly prepared me for taking and successfully passing the nurse licensure examination and thus become eligible to work as a registered nurse," she said. "Analyzing problems and applying acquired knowledge to new situations is a part of everything I do in my job. The nursing education I gained at COD has uniquely prepared me for my role. Prioritizing, multitasking, listening and communicating are vital to success both as a nurse and a nurse informaticist.
"Graduating from College of DuPage with a degree in Nursing truly changed my life in a positive way."
