Student Spotlight: David Wilcox
Major: Paralegal Studies
David Wilcox originally came to College of DuPage to earn his GED. Then he transitioned into credit classes.
“I attended COD sporadically from 2001 through 2007 but left to start a career in the eye care industry as an optician,” he explained.
He was drawn back to College of DuPage because of another interest – law. And now he’s pursuing an associate's degree in Paralegal Studies.
“I’ve been fascinated with law and governance most of my life, and I’ve always found research and discovery to be a lot of fun,” he said. “This seems like the perfect marriage of the two.”
Wilcox – who also runs his own editing/proofreading business, Arbor Editing – would like to work as a paralegal for an environmental law firm or organization, such as Earthjustice Legal Defense Fund or the Environmental Law and Policy Center.
“Through its stellar Paralegal Studies Program, College of DuPage is preparing me expertly for a career in law, regardless of what venue I choose,” he said. “Personally, the active and vibrant Paralegal Club is providing me with limitless options for learning and getting involved with the legal world right off the bat.”
