Student Spotlight: Mario Olivi
Major: Culinary Arts
Instead of preparing for a career at College of DuPage, Mario Olivi enrolled to enhance his career.
“I opened a gourmet grocery store, The Olive Tap. The idea came from my family name and meeting the owner of the Long Grove Olive Tap, Rick Petrocelly, and striking up a partnership and friendship,” he said.
“My wife suggested that if I went to culinary school, I would be able to advise my customers more expertly.”
Based upon recommendations from other chefs who attended COD, Olivi enrolled in the Culinary Arts program and earned his Culinary Certificate.
“My cooking skills improved exponentially,” he said.
Olivi has finally retired, closing the Olive Tap and moving to Arizona. He still highly recommends College of DuPage.
“COD has a very good culinary/hospitality program with world-class chefs to learn from,” he said. “Many of my classmates and friends have gone on to open restaurants and to work in world-class kitchens.”
