Student Spotlight: Paolo Mazza

Paolo Mazza

Paolo Mazza
Associate in Science

When Paolo Mazza was looking at colleges, he was accepted at DePaul University, where he thought about majoring in mass communications.

However, he considered himself “undecided” and knew he couldn’t afford the tuition. Mazza’s dad suggested he look at College of DuPage.

“He went to COD when he was my age,” Mazza said. “I initially was skeptical because it was a community college, but after my first visit, I fell in love with the campus. To this day, I am happy to say that I studied at College of DuPage.”

His goal was to prepare himself for the real world and find a career goal. He also took advantage of many opportunities on campus and joined Phi Theta Kappa, the International Honor Society, where he gained skills as a leader, communicator and activist. He also was elected President.

But it was a successful internship that helped Mazza discover a career and where to pursue it.

“Working with Career Services, I successfully completed the Disney College Program internship, and I knew I wanted to work for the company and focus on giving people the magic that I felt when I became a cast member. I know that with a business degree and an MBA, I will have many opportunities to explore the rest of the company,” he said.

“My ultimate career goal would be to work for the Walt Disney Company as an Ambassador to the Walt Disney World park, and as a recruiting manager for the Disney College Program to offer opportunities to students who are just like me.”

With Disney still on his radar, Mazza earned his Associate in Arts degree from College of DuPage and graduated with honors. He transferred to DePaul University to major in Organizational Communication and minor in Business and recently earned his bachelor’s degree. In addition to his studies, he was service coordinator for the University’s top three service days: New Student Service Day, Day With Vincent and Vincentian Service Day. During spring break in 2016, he was accepted into the Vincentian Student Heritage Tour and traveled to Paris to walk the steps of St. Vincent DePaul.

He is currently seeking positions in HR, nonprofit development and events as well as keeping an eye on Disney. Mazza recommends that students get involved at COD in order to maximize their college experience. This also will help build skills for the real world.

“College of DuPage is a fantastic investment that will provide you with tons of opportunities at a fraction of the cost of what other schools are offering,” he said. “If you want to make a great decision while getting a great education, this is the place. I wouldn’t have been prepared for my success at DePaul if it were not for COD.”
