Student Spotlight: Jenny Mancilla
Major: Associate in Science
To anyone considering College of DuPage, Jenny Mancilla strongly suggests they apply.
“COD gives students an opportunity to take the same classes being offered at the big universities for a cost-efficient price,” she said. “The COD campus is very welcoming, making the environment a comfortable place to learn and study.”
Mancilla was also a Presidential Scholar, which provides free tuition for two years to high-achieving students and membership in Phi Theta Kappa. She earned her Associate in Science, graduated with high honors and was named one of the College’s Outstanding Graduate finalists.
Now Mancilla is at the University of Illinois at Chicago, having been accepted in to the Nursing program. She would like to pursue a career as a nurse practitioner, which combines her passion for science and health care, and work in the emergency room.
Mancilla is grateful for the many opportunities that College of DuPage has offered to her.
“COD made an impact on my life. I met so many friendly people, such as professors and counselors, who aided me and advised me on my career plan,” she said. “The education was fantastic. My instructors were generous with their time and were willing to reach out to their students for help. Many of my fellow classmates also inspired me to join clubs and be more involved in the Chaparral community.
“COD helped me more than I ever thought it would. Without realizing it, COD boosted my confidence to face academic challenges with the help of friendly faculty and available student resources.”
