Student Spotlight: Amy Herz
Major: Associate in Arts
Amy Herz wasn’t sure what career to pursue when she started college.
Thankfully, College of DuPage gave her the time to decide what interested her. It helped that she was named a Presidential Scholar, which provided a full-tuition scholarship and enrollment in COD’s Honors program and the Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society.
It was an offer she couldn’t pass up.
“Having the Presidential Scholarship really pushed me to keep my grades up and take more classes so I had something to be proud of when I graduated and transferred,” she said. “I’m also thankful to COD for the opportunity to feel out what courses I liked before picking a major.”
She loves music and math, and she thought about a career in musical engineering in order to tie these two interests together. However, she is now pursuing computer science and math at the University of Illinois at Chicago, where she is also in the Honors College and preparing to work on a capstone research project.
Another love is California, and she’d like to move there in order to take advantage of the warm weather and culture. Regardless, Herz is keeping her options open, and she is grateful that College of DuPage allowed her to explore her interests.
“In the end, I received a great education at a discount when compared to going all four years somewhere else,” she said. “My hope is that I have a career that I enjoy going to every day.”
