Major: Associate in Arts
Hometown: Warrenville

Ximena Carrasco wasn't ready to leave home yet, and College of DuPage was a perfect choice.

"It is definitely more affordable, and since I’m undecided on my major, it was better for me to start at COD," she said. "I've met a lot of new people, and it is easier to have one-on-one communication with your professors here."

Carrasco joined the College's Latino Ethnics Awareness Association, where she met many of her friends. She's also a student worker in the Latino Outreach Center.

"I first got involved when I met some of the LEAA members and decided to show up to their club meetings," she said. "I’m glad I did because it helped me get involved in school and I met new people with the same goals."

She plans to earn her degree in 2014 and then transfer. While she isn't sure where to go or what to study yet, Carrasco is enjoying her time at College of DuPage and has plenty of advice for new students.

"I would recommend getting involved in school because it helps with your leadership skills and it looks good when you want to transfer," she said.
