Student Spotlight: Dennis Anders
Major: Paralegal Studies
Dennis Anders needed to make a change.
Having earned a bachelor’s degree and worked in insurance, he was looking for something new and discovered the Paralegal Studies program at College of DuPage. He felt the field would complement his business background.
“The paralegal studies program at COD is highly rated and I am a DuPage County resident, so convenience was also a factor,” he said.
Anders praises his instructors for being instrumental in his success.
“They guided me through the program and assisted me in finding an internship,” he said. “I want to thank Sally Fairbank, Linda Jenkins, Capper Grant, Carol Carlson and Jamie Johnson for everything they did. I have high regard for COD in preparing graduates by teaching the skills to transition directly into the workforce.”
The law firm where he interned offered him a position, which he accepted. Anders is now working on behalf of hospitals on their insurance settlements and workers’ compensation claims. His goal is to continue improving his skills and develop into a higher-level paralegal.
He advices students to study hard and find an area of law that they would enjoy.
“Get involved in the Paralegal Club so you can develop a network of contacts to learn of internship and employment opportunities,” he said. “With experience, good career opportunities will develop.”
