The History of the Family Photograph:
Photographs and Memory Connecting the American Past and Present

History is alive in each person’s family, their work, and their everyday life and their community.

Each home has reems of history in their own possessions – pieces of jewelry or housewares passed down from generation to generation, recipes for Gramma’s special biscuits and cranberry sauce, Great-Grandad’s tools, and of course the family photograph album.

College of DuPage held a contest for people in the College of DuPage area to send in a favorite family photograph with an accompanying 50-75 word narrative for exhibition at the Gahlberg Gallery held Thursday Feb. 21 to Thursday, March 28, 2002.

The exhibition was arranged in six categories:
• The Family
• People at Work
• People in Uniform
• Women’s History
• The Immigrant in America
• People in Arts, Sports, Leisure
