Frequently Asked Questions About Commencement

Who is eligible to participate in the ceremony?
Any graduating student who has earned a degree or certificate between fall 2007 and summer 2008. Students who plan to complete their credits for graduation by the end of Summer term may still participate.

How can I be a part of it?
Return the completed information card NO LATER THAN FRIDAY, MAY 2, 2008, or it will be assumed you will NOT be participating in the ceremony. You may send it directly to the Student Activities office or bring it between April 14 and May 2. Any questions about your degree(s) or certificate(s) should be directed to the Records office, (630) 942-2261.

How many of my family and friends can attend the Commencement Ceremony?
Each graduate will receive up to six guest tickets to distribute to whom they wish. These tickets are required for entrance to the ceremony. Additional tickets might become available depending on the number of graduates participating in the ceremony. If any of your guests need special services due to a disability, indicate those needs on your return card and the Student Activities staff will contact you to arrange assistance.

Will I receive my actual diploma at the Commencement Ceremony?
No, you will receive only a cover. Your actual diploma will be mailed to you a few weeks after you complete requirements.

What about other information regarding the ceremony?
Monday, April 14 through Friday, May 2, you must visit the Student Activities office to pick up your commencement ceremony packet and tickets. At that time you will receive information about rehearsal, parking, photography, the reception and all the other important events related to the ceremony. If you are absolutely unable to make it to our office, please call us at (630) 942-2243 to make alternative arrangements. Once you have picked up your information from Student Activities you will be able to go to the C.O.D. Bookstore to buy your cap and gown* and announcements.

*All participating graduates MUST wear the appropriate academic regalia, which can only be purchased from the C.O.D. Bookstore. Visiting the Bookstore in person to try on the gown will ensure the proper fit.

Whom do I call if I have more questions?
Contact the Student Activities staff, (630) 942-2243, or stop in the Student Resource Center (SRC), Room 1800.
