The Making of a Superpower
Presented by Graham Allison
Since
the end of the Cold War and the rivalry with the
Soviet Union more that ten years ago, the United States
is left as the only superpower.
Graham Allison is the Douglas Dillon Professor of Government, Harvard
University, and Director, Belfer Center for Science and International
Affairs. The Belfer Center is a think tank where a dozen senior national
analysts have for a decade been analyzing and anticipating a major terrorist
attack. In the first term of the Clinton administration, Dr Allison
served as assistant secretary of defense for policy and plans, where
he coordinated DOD strategy and policy towards Russia, Ukraine and the
other states of the former Soviet Union.
This
is the first of a four part series on The United States as a Lone Superpower.
Other lectures will cover how others perceive the US as a superpower,
how we use superpower status to get what we want without alienating
allies and enemies alike and how a superpower falls.
