Juvenile Law Update
Examine a variety of juvenile justice issues of special relevance to Illinois peace officers. The course will cover the special role of juvenile police officers in juvenile interrogations, considerations in conducting juvenile interrogations, required electronic recording of juvenile interrogations in certain cases, permitted mingling of juvenile and adult offenders, secure custody of juvenile arrestees and confidentiality of juvenile records. Attendees receive materials explaining selected provisions of the Juvenile Court Act and amendments, recent case decisions and statutes outside of the act which relate to minors. New offense provisions from the Illinois Criminal Code, Illinois Vehicle Code, Abandoned Newborn Infant Protection Act and more will be discussed.
