Program Information:

Learn how to properly handle, collect, preserve and protect digital device evidence to ensure successful data extraction. Once successfully extracted, forensic examination results must then be interpreted and understood. This course is specifically designed for detectives, investigators or officers assigned to investigative duties. Instruction covers subjects including device identification, database files, social networking apps, internet browsing history and computer forensics. Through demonstration and use of the Suburban Law Enforcement Academy's digital computer lab, law enforcement professionals develop an understanding of how crimes are committed using digital devices, and learn best practices in conducting investigations and interpreting results.

• Physical vs. logical acquisitions
• Chats and chat applications
• Recovery of deleted items
• Mobile messaging: SMS and MMS
