Student Leadership Academy

The DuPage Area Student Leadership Academy is designed to link local high school juniors and seniors with members of our local business community to help students develop the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in the workplace. Recommended by their school, students participate in four workshops during the school year.

Content includes goal setting, leadership skills assessment, time management, proper interviewing skills, resume writing, work attitude, diversity in the workplace, ethics and Internet site protocol. Sessions are facilitated by professionals from the local business community, including Cray Kaiser Ltd., MRxI Corporation, Weselak and Associates, Paulsen Productions, Accent HR LLC., Creative Strategies Inc., SNtial Tech Inc. and The Packer Foundation.

“This was a very good wake-up call for me to show how important certain things are in the business world.” — Naperville Academy student

The academy is made possible through the support of the Illinois Community College Board grant, the DuPage Area Partnership for College and Career Success (PCCS), the College of DuPage Office of High School Partnerships, and the DuPage Area Occupational Education System (DAOES), as well as our area educational partners Lewis University-Oak Brook Campus, Midwestern University, Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT)-Rice Campus, DeVry University-Addison Campus, and Elmhurst College.

“Each situation reviewed during the sessions related to real-life events that I might face in the future.” — York High School student

“As a business partner of the Student Leadership Academy, part of our responsibility to both our industry and our community is to prepare the leaders of the future. We have an advantage of working with high school students in this program who are still trying to navigate their career choices. The session provides us the opportunity to have both interaction and impact on their decisions after high school. It is a privilege to work with these students and provide them life skills that they otherwise would not have experienced.” — Deanna L. Salo, CPA, Cray, Kaiser Ltd.
