To be nominated for this prestigious national award, students must complete a lengthy application demonstrating academic excellence; intellectual rigor, growth and potential; show how they have used their two-year college education to benefit themselves, their schools and their communities; and present three letters of recommendation from faculty and mentors. The application’s centerpiece is a 500-word essay detailing the student’s most significant academic endeavor attempted while attending community college. Three teams of 20 students each are selected from among the nationwide nominees.
