IGIA Hope Program
Sections:
The Illinois Green Industry Association (IGIA) offers the opportunity to gain valuable experience in a wide range of nursery settings. Once a month, from September through February, students visit wholesale nurseries, a retail garden center, the largest horticultural trade show in the Midwest and an educational seminar. This is a wonderful way to put classroom knowledge into practice and gain insight into the nursery industry.
Participants will perform pruning, potting, B&B and other nursery-related tasks, observe various types of nursery businesses and the market niche they serve, and evaluate the nursery industry as a career opportunity.
This three-semester credit internship (non-paid) experience satisfies the Co-op requirement for a degree and related certificates. Students provide their own transportation to each site.
