Diagnostic Medical Imaging Sonography
Sonographers provide one-on-one care for a variety of people, from healthy to critically
ill, and are a key member of the health care team. Sonographers use high-tech instrumentation
to create images from inside the body that are used for medical diagnosis by a physician.
Career Information
Sonographers work in a variety of settings, including clinics, hospitals, physician
offices, public health facilities and laboratories. This dynamic field is expected
to grow 14 to 20 percent by the year 2016. Entry level sonographers in the DuPage
County area earn about $57,000 annually, according to the Illinois Department of Employment
Security.
Degree
College of DuPage offers an Associate in Applied Science Sonography Degree program.
The 24-month program includes all of the course work and clinical hours currently
offered in both the General (DMIS) and Vascular (DMIV) certificates programs at College
of DuPage.

Tuition
Effective Fall 2011, tuition and fees for DMIV required courses will increase to $231.15
per credit hour for in-district students. This rate applies only to required program
courses for in-district students – all general education courses taken in relation
to this program will remain at the current in-district rate. Visit Tuition and Aid for the current tuition rate.
Tuition and fees for DMIS required courses will increase to $231.15 per credit hour for in-district students. For the certificate program, this will take effect in Summer 2011 for students enrolled in the program starting Fall 2010. For the AAS degree program, this will take effect in Summer 2011 for students currently enrolled. This rate applies only to required program courses for in-district students – all general education courses taken in relation to this program will remain at the current in-district rate of $132 per credit hour.
