Wildlife Biology and Ecology
1. Wildlife Biology
The following science and math courses are likely to be required (contact prospective
institutions early for specific requirements):
- Biology 1151, 1152
- Chemistry 1551 (Math 1431 (or equivalent) is a pre-requisite to Chemistry 1551) and 1552 (inorganic); Chemistry 2551 and 2552 (organic).
- Math to include Math 1431
- Physics 1100
Also consider taking Biology 2150, Ecology; Zoology 2260, Invertebrate Zoology; Zoology 2250, Comparative Zoology; and/or Biology 1800, Animal Research in the Field: An Introduction.
2. Ecology
- Integral and differential calculus: Math 2231 and 2232. The sequence to Math 2231 and 2232 is Math 1431 > Math 1432 >
Math 2231 > Math 2232.
Also consider taking Biology 2150, Ecology; Zoology 2260, Invertebrate Zoology; Botany 1320, 2350, 2360.
3. Select baccalaureate-granting institutions for their prerequisites.
In Illinois, Southern Illinois University has a good wildlife biology program. Ecology
in a range of fields can be pursued in graduate programs at Northern Illinois, University
of Illinois-Urbana and Southern Illinois. You will likely need to major in biology,
zoology or botany as an undergraduate interested in ecology.
