IV. Course Requirements and Procedures

You will complete assigned readings and activities each week as described in the Class Schedule included in this syllabus. Many exercises assume that previous ones have been completed.

To test your skills, you will be required to submit weekly activities listed in the Assignment Schedule included in this syllabus.

V. ATTENDANCE

Attendance is crucial. Each session assumes you know the material covered in the previous classes and reading assignments. Some topics will be more difficult to understand if you have missed previous material. You are responsible for material covered in the classes you missed. You and another student should agree to share notes and pick up class handouts.

VI. ASSIGNMENTS

To test your skills, you will be required to submit weekly activities listed in the Assignment Schedule at the end of this syllabus. The assignments are to be done individually, but help can be obtained from other students and the instructor.

All assignments must include the following: your name, the name of the text, and the pages of the text. In addition to the page number, place the problem number or name of the file on each print-out.

Assignments are due once a week at the beginning of class on the day dependent on your class meeting time. Assignments turned in after the due date will receive half credit and none will be accepted more than one class session late. No late work will be accepted the final week of the quarter.

If you cannot attend class the day a project is due, either turn it in early or make sure it is mailed to COD and postmarked no later than the due date. Mailing address:

Make-up exams after the test date are allowed for personal emergencies only. These exams must be taken within one week after the regularly scheduled exam.

VIII. GRADING

Your final grade will be based on the total number of points earned during the quarter as a percent of the total number of possible points:

Three exams --- 300 points

Student Workbook Assignments --- 200 points

To obtain a perfect score on the activities, the work submitted must be perfect.

Points will be deducted for the following:

Your final grade will be assigned as follows:

Grade Score

A 500 - 450

B 449 - 400

C 399 - 350

D 349 - 300

F < 299

Bonus points for teamwork can help raise a grade no more than five points from the next highest grade.

You may chose to be evaluated on the basis of the PASS/FAIL grade according to college policy. To do this you must obtain a registration form for your instructor’s signature. The PASS option requires at least 325 points. CAUTION: Some schools transfer a PASS as a "D".

A student may withdraw from a class at any time prior to the midterm date denoted by college policy. After that date, the student must receive written permission from the college instructor to withdraw. Written permission to withdraw will not be given if a student takes the last exam.
