Background
I have a secondary education teaching certificate in Math and I currently work as a programmer analyst for a data processing and printing company. I have been teaching part-time at COD since 1995. I began teaching math and test prep courses, then progressed to general computer courses and now I exclusively teach computer programming in QBasic and Visual Basic for Youth and Adults. In 2000, I received the Outstanding Part-time Faculty award from COD.

Teaching Style
All my classes are 'hands on' and demonstration style. The classes are held in a computer lab, so every student has a computer and my computer screen is projected on the wall. I will type lines of code and ask the students to type the same in their programs. I then suggest small changes or additions to the program and have the students try them. I will also purposely include errors in a program and have them figure out what is wrong. I feel this discovery type of learning is the best way to learn programming. Lecturing is very short and is interspersed between demonstration sections as needed. I assign short readings and programs to reinforce what was done in class as homework almost every week.

Projects and Hobbies
I am an avid Science Fiction and Fantasy reader. I also love putting together Jigsaw Puzzels. I play FreeCell all the time and my longest winning streak is 67. My current projects are learning Visual Basic.Net and creating this web page.
