Special CONVERSION information. Advising forThe Engineering Transfer ProgramThe first two years of the traditional four year bachelor's degree in engineering is available at College of DuPage. Students would then transfer to a four year college or university to complete the program. Many students choose to pursue a degree in this way because of lower cost, increased convenience or other factors. At any one time, more than three hundred students are enrolled in engineering at College of DuPage. Foreign LanguageA Foreign Language is required only at UIUC. Currently, no other programs require a foreign language. The requirement at UIUC is for three years of a single foreign language in high school or the equivalent in college. Two years of a foreign language, or the equivalent in college, are required for admission to the College of Engineering at UIUC. Note that college credit in a foreign language may not be applied towards degree requirements at either UIUC or COD.Engineering TechnologyEngineering Technology is a program similar to Engineering. The main difference is that Engineering Technology requires less math. The suggested course sequence is similar to engineering for the first year except that engineering technology students are encouraged to take the Physics instead of Chemistry. See an advisor for more details.A website maintained by the ASEE (American Society for Engineering Education) contains a great deal of information about Engineering and Engineering Technology programs. It is aimed at those who may not have made a decision about a career choice (pre-college students, undecided students). Still confused?Perhaps your question will be answered on the FAQ (Frequently Asked Question) page.Further informationFurther information is available from the following sources:College catalogs. You may obtain these from the transfer school or view them in the COD Library. These will list course requirements in the numbering system of the transfer school. Articulation agreements. Copies of transfer agreements between COD and most Illinois schools are available in the Advising and Counseling offices at COD (Room IC 2012). These will list equivalent courses, but not necessarily required courses. Also available the Student Advising Resource Site. Transfer Guides. Many schools provide detailed information on suggested programs for COD students intending to transfer in engineering. These include U of I Urbana, U of I Chicago, Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, Illinois Institute of Technology, General Motors Institute, and Bradley University. Available from engineering advisors. Also check the Links to Colleges of Engineering page.
