ENGINEERING CLUB=

Thanks to everyone who ca= me out for the first engineering club general meeting. Dr. Clack and the other IT representatives provided a lot of good information and encouragement for yo= u as you embark on your engineering academic career.

INTERNSHIPS:

Internships are an extrem= ely important part of becoming an engineer.&nb= sp; It’s hard to land that first job without having stepped foot i= n an engineering office before. Mo= st internships consist of drafting in a computer program like AutoCAD or solid modeling in ProE. So if you’ve taken Engineering 1101, you’re certainly qualified to ap= ply for these types of internships. You will most likely not get to do design as an intern, but you will get to work with design engineers so that you can see what they do on a daily basis. It’s a great way to know if you’re going into the right field of engineering.

Summer is the perfect time to get experience and take = time off from classes. This way yo= u can earn some money and then just focus on your course work throughout the scho= ol year. Several paid-internship opportunities are available for engineering students through the Cooperative Education/Internship Program in the Career Services Center (SRC 1490) Phone: 630-942-2611. Sci-Tech Internship for Mechanical Engineers

Sci-Tech is looking for a= n intern to help in the design and drafting of a new scroll compressor. They require some experience in Au= toCAD and ProE. If you’ve com= pleted Engineering 1101, you are qualified. It would also be a bonus if the intern could speak Chinese, but it is not necessary. Job Title: Research Platform Intern - Unpaid<= /p>

Job Description: Description of Tasks:= - Collaborate with PPL Research and Multimedia Teams on requirements and go= als of research component of museum's new Skyline exhibition; Recommend equip= ment purchases based on component goals; Create optimal layout of research com= ponent including (but not limited to) Placement of audio and video recording equipment; Wire runs from exhibition area to research platform office, and Consult museum's IT Department on set up of research platform office workstation and peripheral equipment; Create detailed diagrams and drawing for component installation. Student projects include creation of Skyline exhibition research platform.

Requirements: Student intern will engineer museum re= search and/or exhibition environments for audio and video recordings, recommend equipment based on specific project goals, create installation drawings a= nd work effectively in a fast-paced team atmosphere. This is a part-time position, 15-20 hour/week. Position requires a 3-month commitment, 200 ho= urs. Our internship program provides interns the opportunity to develop import= ant work skills and gain practical experience while working on significant projects to further the Museum's mission.

Job Description: We are currently seeking an intern that will assist our Information Technology staff in rebuilding, configuring, and testing PCs, laptops and printers; troubleshoot; provide technical support for in-office and remote workers; monitoring back-ups; server migrations; etc. Qualified candidates will have knowledge of Notes Administration, Windows servers, etc. This i= s a part-time position. Responsibilities: Intern will: Assist in orchestrating the implementation of a computerized Maintenance Measurement Program for society; Time Study vari= ous routine preventative maintenance inspections within the park; Research and input historical information on facilities, equipment and components with= in the park; Work with management to determine inspection frequencies for facilities, equipment and components within the park; Audit spare parts inventory; Create a dispatching program and process for the various craft= smen within the Plant and Facilities group; Implement and follow-up on a web-b= ased work order program; Assist in teaching internal customers how to use the = work order system; Engineering Costs Studies; Evaluate work Scopes for Cost/Benefit analyses; Assist in the project management of small construc= tion projects. This would include feasibilities, budgets, timelines, estimates, bidding and quality control.

Requirements:= Minimum 18 years= of age; Strong interpersonal, communications, and organizational skills; Str= ong computer skills; Must be able to commit to 12 weeks; approximately 40 hours/week; Completion of a reflective journal or project required as par= t of internship

ATTENTION: BIO OR BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERS=

University of Illinois at= Chicago and College of DuPage are currently formulating a “Bridges” pro= gram to help bio engineering or biomedical engineering students get connected to= UIC early on with mentoring, lab experiences, and seminars. The program is not yet formed, so = for now I just need to know if you are interested in taking part in this progra= m. If so, please contact me.

Do you know what you̵= 7;re taking in the fall? Perhaps y= ou should stop by my office. Als= o, it’s a great idea to take a Math class in the summer so prerequisites don’t hold you up.
