After reading the considerations, write a brief artist statement that describes :

  1. why the final image appears the way it does and / or why certain elements were chosen,
  2. what kind of mood you are trying to establish,
  3. what you hope to convey through the piece,
  4. and what kind of reaction you anticipate from the viewer

IMPORTANT ! You do not need to write an artist statement for both the self-portrait and the still-life / landscape - just write one for the self-portrait.

Things to consider for your artist statement:

Intent of the project - what does it mean ? What do you hope to convey ? What is your message ? Why are you doing it in this particular way ? Are there other ways, that might be more effective ? Does the finished piece satisfy the original intentions ?

Theme and feeling - what is the subject matter of your piece ? How do you feel about the subject matter ? What kind of mood, or atmosphere are you trying to create ? What kind of emotional, intellectual, or other response do you want to evoke in the viewer ? Are there incongruities between your stated objectives and your finished piece, and why - are these intentional ?

The journey - as your work progressed from inception to completion, note the following : how does the work in progress, change from your original vision ? Did you make any discoveries on the way that altered the image's outcome ? What was the discovery ? Did the creation of the work give you new ideas for future projects ?
